Burnham Overy Staithe
Catalogue Number: PL005
The North Norfolk coast is full treacherous sandbanks and wet and dry shelter for both working and leisure boats. It is a great general area or sailing as there are large areas of water sheltered from the full force of the elements.
Burnham Overy Staithe is one of those that retains some seawater when the tide is fully out, but is cut off from the sea until the tide returns.
One fascinating thing to watch here is the turning of the tide from outgoing to incoming. The flow of water is relentless until it has run its course, and so can be very dangerous to those who do not know or respect it.
This shot was taken on a summer evening about half an hour before the tide started coming in. I used my Nikon D200 and a 50mm lens (1/125th sec at f8). The water was mirror like and the reflections of the boats in the water were magnificent.
