Field Mouse
Catalogue Number: PW002
The Field Mouse is a common term for a range of mice in the UK. The true field mouse is the Long Tailed Field Mouse, or Wood Mouse and it is one of our most endearing/or terrifying animals depending on your point of view. He is a major source of food for all of our carnivorous species, such as the owl. Consequently he tends to be nocturnal, and has acute hearing. Hence the large eyes and ears. They are also deemed to be a major pest.
This little field mouse was photographed at The British Wildlife Centre in Kent.
I had to wait for this one to climb up to the top of the ear of wheat, but it was worth it!
