The Otter Is Alert

I used to go fishing to France with a friend quite regularly a few years back, to a place just outside Dijohn. I remember on my last trip seeing an Otter patrol past our swim very regularly. At midnight he was still doing it, and we could not work out why. At about 3am we decided to get some sleep and moved a few feet into our tents which were by the waterside.
A few hours later we awoke to find that our site had been systematically searched and some bait taken. So all the time the Otter had been waiting for us to go to bed!
This photograph was taken at the Wildwood wildlife sanctuary in Kent, and this chap reminds me of our experiences in France.
We will hopefully see more of these cheeky playful animals in our countryside now as conservationists and others reintroduce the Otter.
